Rick Sturtz
(adapted from Joe Hill by Joan Baez)

I dreamed I saw Rick Sturtz last night alive as you and me.
Says I, "But Rick, you're four years dead,"
"I never died ," said he.
"I never died ," said he.

"Since that gray Sunday you left us, Rick, we miss you so," says I.
"Takes more than death to kill a man,"
Says Rick, "I didn't die!"
Says Rick, "I didn't die."

And standing there as big as life and smiling with his eyes,
Says Rick, "What death could never kill went on to mesmerize,
Way up in paradise."

"Wherever art is turned from shards
And mere men into bards,
Where mead is swilled and brewed,
And the fairest maidens wooed,
It's there I'll be with you."

I dreamed I saw Rick Sturtz last night alive as you and me.
Says I, "But Rick, you're four years dead,"
"I never died ," said he.
"I never died ," said he.
